Federal authorities have joined the investigation into recent high-profile burglaries at the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
According to sources cited by TMZ, the FBI is working alongside local agencies – Cass County Sheriff’s deputies in Missouri for the Mahomes case and Leawood Police in Kansas for Kelce’s – to explore connections between these incidents and a series of similar break-ins across various jurisdictions.
The FBI’s involvement goes beyond the players’ celebrity status, with officials suggesting a potential pattern that links these burglaries to a broader criminal network targeting high-value homes.
The burglaries, which reportedly occurred in early October, targeted both Mahomes’ Belton mansion and Kelce’s Leawood estate as the Chiefs prepared to play the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium.
Mahomes’ home was first broken into around midnight on October 6, while Kelce’s estate was burglarized hours later on October 7, the same day the Chiefs secured a 26-13 win over the Saints, with Taylor Swift in the stands supporting her boyfriend, Kelce.
During the break-in at Kelce’s home, $20,000 in cash was allegedly stolen, and the back door was damaged.
It remains unclear if anything was taken from Mahomes’ property.
Both break-ins were reported to authorities, with the burglary at Kelce’s residence flagged to police on October 8.
The burglaries add another layer of scrutiny for Kelce, whose relationship with musician Taylor Swift has placed him in the public spotlight.
Seeking privacy amid rising fan attention, Kelce had moved into his $6 million, 17,000-square-foot Leawood estate, which is situated at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac within a gated community just 20 minutes from Arrowhead Stadium.
Mahomes, who shares his Belton property with his wife Brittany, moved into the home in 2020, outfitting the estate with amenities including a private practice football field and a golf hole.
The Chiefs stars are not only grappling with these recent intrusions but also the increasing attention that accompanies their high-profile careers.
