This past weekend, the state of Texas was hit hard by severe flash flooding, resulting in a tragic loss of life and leaving many missing, including members from a girls’ summer camp. The flooding devastated areas in Kerr County and the Texas Hill Country, casting a shadow over this July 4th holiday with a heartbreaking toll of over 70 lives lost.

This tragedy touched the Kansas City Chiefs’ community particularly closely. Tavis Hunt, the team’s owner, shared the devastating news that a young cousin from the Hunt family was among those who died. Janie Hunt, tragically, was one of the campers at Camp Mystic who lost her life in the floodwaters.

Images from Comfort, Texas, capture the desperate attempts of Boerne Search and Rescue teams navigating the flood-churned waters of the Guadalupe River, battling against the currents in search of survivors. It’s a sobering sight, with the magnitude of the disaster starkly evident as rescue operations continue in earnest.

Sharing in the collective grief, Tavis Hunt released a heartfelt statement expressing the depth of the loss felt by many. “Our hearts are broken by the devastation from the floods… losing so many lives, including a precious little Hunt cousin,” she conveyed, opening a window into the profound sorrow and spiritual grappling that such a calamity invokes.

In the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, Hunt’s reflection on faith and resilience stands as a poignant reminder of the struggle to reconcile with loss while seeking comfort in belief. Her words, seeking solace and understanding amid the pain, echo the sentiments of many touched by the flood’s impact.

As the community comes together to support one another, our thoughts and sincere condolences are extended to all the friends and family affected by this disaster.
