The Dallas Cowboys are in the middle of an extremely rough season.

As is always the case when teams are met with frustration and disappointment, conversations have begun about Dallas’ future direction and potential shakeups within the organization.

Amidst this turmoil, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has stirred up controversy by suggesting a bold plan.

Smith suggests that the Cowboys should intentionally tank the rest of their season to secure both quarterback Shedeur Sanders and his father, NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, as their new head coach.

On ESPN’s First Take, Smith passionately proposed his unorthodox idea, suggesting it could be the Cowboys’ ultimate turnaround strategy.

“I’ll take it a step further and I’m gonna make people very uncomfortable here,” Smith began. “Prime, we know the brother can recruit. We’re talking about the greatest cornerback in the history of the National Football League.

“This brother Prime Time Deion Sanders and the job that he’s doing…I believe that the Dallas Cowboys should tank the rest of the season, get the number one overall pick, so you can draft Shedeur Sanders and, by the way, hire Prime Time Deion Sanders as your head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

“I think that should be Jerry Jones’ master plan. That’s right, I said it. Hire Prime Time Deion Sanders. You’ve gotta tank the season to make sure you can get his son as your quarterback and you move forward that way. That is what I believe the Dallas Cowboys should do.”

Smith laid out his vision for Jerry Jones’ “master plan” to revive the Cowboys, who last reached the Super Bowl in 1996.

Smith’s remarks come at a time when Deion Sanders has been making headlines as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.

Following several bumps in the road, Deion has the Buffs playing well as they contend for a possible playoff spot.

Deion’s son, Shedeur, first made waves at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado, where he has continued to excel.

Together, the father-son duo has become one of the most compelling stories in college football, and Smith believes their success could transfer onto the NFL’s grandest stage in Dallas.

Smith elaborated on why Deion Sanders might be ready for a role like this, hinting at a sense of destiny for the father-son pairing in Dallas.

“As much as I appreciate the job and the University of Colorado and the citizens of Boulder, Colorado giving Prime Time Deion Sanders this opportunity, the bottom line is when you think about Prime Time, we shouldn’t be thinking about Boulder, Colorado … We should be thinking about someplace else, and I think Big D, Dallas,” Smith said.

The Cowboys, however, face significant obstacles to realizing Smith’s vision, particularly with their current quarterback Dak Prescott, who recently signed a substantial contract extension.

Given the financial implications of Prescott’s contract, moving on from him would be both costly and complex.

Smith’s scenario assumes a massive structural change within the franchise, raising questions about whether the Cowboys would be willing – or able – to embrace such a radical plan.

Deion, now in his second season at Colorado, has led the Buffaloes to new heights, positioning them as contenders in the Big 12 and potential candidates for the expanded playoff field.

There are some talent evaluators who believe Shedeur will be the top pick in next April’s draft. However, others feel that he comes with some concerning red flags which may cause teams to think twice about drafting him.

What are your thoughts on Smith’s suggestion that the Cowboys should tank the rest of the season in order to make a play for Deion and Shedeur???
