The Pittsburgh Steelers are playoff-bound, but they’re limping into the postseason after a four-game losing streak. And let’s be honest, their wide receiver situation has been a major headache. It might be time for the Steelers to consider trading George Pickens.
Pickens is a talented receiver, there’s no doubt about that. But he’s also been inconsistent, immature, and at times, a bit of a distraction. He’s only topped 1,000 receiving yards once in his career, and with a new contract looming, the Steelers have a tough decision to make.
Remember that fumble against the Colts? Or how about giving up on that Hail Mary against the Browns? And who could forget that wrong route that led to an interception against the Chiefs? Pickens has had some rough moments this season.
His latest performance against the Bengals was a low point. He had six targets and only managed one catch for zero yards. There was clearly something off between him and quarterback Russell Wilson.
But here’s the thing: Pickens still has the potential to be a star. He’s got the talent, but he needs the right environment to thrive. And that’s where the Houston Texans come in.
The Texans have a strong culture under head coach DeMeco Ryans. They’ve shown they can work with talented but troubled receivers. Remember when they signed Stefon Diggs? He had a productive season with the Texans before his injury.
The Texans also have a need at receiver. Diggs is a free agent, Tank Dell is out for the season, and while Nico Collins is solid, CJ Stroud needs more weapons to reach his full potential. Pickens could be the perfect fit.
This trade could be a win-win for both teams. The Steelers get some much-needed draft capital or a player who better fits their needs, and the Texans get a young receiver with star potential. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on as we head into the offseason.
