Saquon Barkley, the Philadelphia Eagles star running back, recently opened up about a key component behind his illustrious NFL journey—his fiancée, Anna Congdon. In a candid conversation, Barkley highlighted just how pivotal Congdon has been throughout his career. “When I look at some of the moments—my highs, my lows and my NFL career—one person that’s right next to me is my fiancée,” he shared, underscoring her integral role in shaping his path and supporting their “beautiful family.”

The couple’s love story began at Penn State and blossomed into a close-knit family with two children at the heart of it all: six-year-old Jada and Saquon Jr., who is two. Reflecting on his evolving goals as a parent, Barkley remarked, “I used to be the type of person that would be like, ‘Oh, I want three kids.’ So, however many God wants to bless us with, I’m with that.”

For Barkley, the sense of grounding and support from his family translates seamlessly to his game on the field. The Super Bowl champion underscored the significance of coming home to loved ones, stating, “No matter win, lose or draw, you get to come home, and the things that really matter are right in front of you, like family.”

Congdon’s unwavering support has not gone unnoticed, with Barkley openly praising her influence in public settings before. Back in February, he shared with PEOPLE just how indispensable she has been, both in life and football. “I can’t be the athlete I am and have the success I have had in my career without the help of her. She always has my back, not only in football but throughout life… as we continue to grow and mature and go through life together, we continue getting closer and continue to get even better.”

Their journey, already filled with cherished moments, was crowned with an engagement that Barkley revealed had been kept under wraps for months despite recent public buzz. “I know it just broke the other day, but I’ve been engaged for like six months,” he said, keeping a personal milestone close to heart until the timing was right.

With the Eagles crowned as the reigning Super Bowl champions, the expectations for the team—and Barkley—are sky-high this upcoming season. Fresh off a season with 2,000-yard rushers, Barkley is both poised and motivated for the challenges ahead, asserting, “I feel like I’m entering my prime. I just gotta continue to have the mindset of listening to everyone, buying into whatever they want me to do. Whatever they want me to do, try to do it at the best of my ability.”

Driven by the same fire that has fueled him since childhood, Barkley remains ambitious, with his sights set on cementing a legacy in the NFL. “The thing that drives me is the same thing that has driven me since I was a little kid,” Barkley expressed. “I’ve said this since I got into the league and I don’t mean it in an arrogant way. I want to be the best running back to ever play or at least one of the best running backs to ever play. I don’t think there’s actually a way you can prove who’s the best.”

His passion for the game is undiminished, with every snap and every yard gained building towards greatness. Barkley’s journey is fueled not only by the stats but by an undying love for the game, underscored by resilience and a desire to achieve, “no matter if we win four Super Bowls.”
