The Green Bay Packers are heading into 2025 with high stakes for quarterback Jordan Love, and they’ve brought in Sean Mannion as their new quarterbacks coach to help him take the next step. Mannion, a former third-round pick who played under head coach Matt LaFleur with the Rams in 2017, is stepping into his first season in the role after serving as an offensive assistant last year. He’s ready to lean on his experience to guide Love, now in his fifth season, as the team’s cornerstone.

Mannion’s focus is clear: fundamentals first. “It really starts with footwork,” he told Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I got so much better from understanding how the footwork helps your accuracy, it helps your decision-making, it helps the timing of the play.” That lesson came straight from his time with LaFleur in LA, and now he’s passing it on to Love, aiming to refine the 26-year-old’s game while keeping the offense familiar. “I want to make it familiar for Jordan, but I sprinkle in some things from my own experience to stimulate his development,” Mannion said, emphasizing collaboration with LaFleur and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich to support Love’s growth.

The Packers doubled down on Love this offseason, making it clear he’s their guy. They didn’t make big free-agency splashes but smartly added veteran guard Aaron Banks from the 49ers to bolster the offensive line. The real fireworks came in the 2025 NFL Draft, where GM Brian Gutekunst earned cheers from the Lambeau crowd by snagging speedy wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round, alongside Day Two picks Savion Williams and Anthony Belton to give Love more weapons.

After a first-round playoff exit last year, the Packers are hungry to end their NFC title drought—they haven’t been to the conference championship since 2021 and haven’t won it since Super Bowl XLV in 2010. For LaFleur, who reached the NFC Championship in his first two seasons but hasn’t been back since, 2025 feels like a make-or-break year. With Mannion’s coaching, a beefed-up offensive line, and new playmakers, the pieces are in place for Love to lead Green Bay on a deep playoff run. Packers fans are ready to see if this is the year their quarterback takes them back to the promised land.
