Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is riding high on the momentum of his team’s recent victory over the Washington Commanders.

Sure, the 2024 season has been a disaster as a whole, but Dallas’ dramatic 34-26 victory over Washington provided a nice shot of adrenaline for the starving Cowboys.

During his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones expressed confidence in head coach Mike McCarthy’s future with the team, leaving open the possibility that the much-criticized coach could return next season.

McCarthy, a former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers, has been under fire throughout the season despite leading the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-win campaigns.

However, McCarthy’s constant failures in the postseason have washed away any and all highs from regular season successes.

In the radio interview, Jones was emphatic in his praise for McCarthy.

“I don’t think that’s crazy at all,” he said of the idea of bringing Big Mike back in 2025. “That’s not crazy. Listen, Mike McCarthy is an outstanding coach.”

Jones continued to defend McCarthy’s credentials, emphasizing the coach’s experience and leadership.

“Mike McCarthy has been there, done that,” he continued. “He’s got great ideas. So the bottom line is in no place in my body language or anything else have you seen an indication about what we’re going to be doing relative to this staff at the end of this year. And we shouldn’t. We’ve got a lot of football left.”

While the win over Washington halted their long losing streak, the Cowboys, now 4-7, remain on the outside looking in at the NFC playoff race.

With starting quarterback Dak Prescott out for the season, backup Cooper Rush has taken the reins for the remainder of the year.

Rush took a step forward against the Commanders, completed 24 of 32 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Despite the triumph, speculation about McCarthy’s job security continues, fueled by ongoing discussions about potential coaching candidates.

ESPN’s First Take has floated both Deion Sanders and Bill Belichick as possible replacements in Dallas.

However, Jones was quick to downplay such speculation, emphasizing that he is not focused on potential coaching changes with the season still ongoing.

“I really haven’t talked about it all year and not going to start on a short week and an important division game,” Jones said.

The Cowboys will host the rival New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day.
