Is Time Running Out for Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh?

The Pittsburgh Steelers limped out of the playoffs after a brutal loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and now the whispers are getting louder: is this the end of the line for head coach Mike Tomlin?

It’s a tough question, and one that Steelers fans are wrestling with right now. Tomlin has been a model of consistency in Pittsburgh, leading the team to a non-losing season in every year of his tenure. But when it comes to the playoffs, the Steelers have fallen short. This latest loss marks their sixth straight playoff defeat under Tomlin, and their third in a row by 14 points or more.

The Steelers looked lifeless in the first half against the Ravens, a performance that mirrored their dismal end to the regular season. They lost their final four games, including two against Baltimore, and seemed to completely run out of steam when it mattered most.

Tomlin’s playoff record now stands at 8-11, and the Steelers haven’t reached the Super Bowl since 2010. That’s a long time for a franchise with such a rich history of success. The Steelers seem content with simply making the playoffs, believing that Tomlin is getting the most out of the roster he’s given. But at some point, you have to wonder if that’s enough.

It’s highly unlikely that the Steelers will fire Tomlin outright. He’s a respected figure in the organization and a well-liked coach. But a trade this offseason isn’t out of the question. If the Steelers decide to shake things up and bring in a new voice, Tomlin would certainly be a hot commodity on the coaching market.

For now, it seems like Tomlin will be back in Pittsburgh for the 2025 season. But the pressure is on. He needs to find a way to get this team over the hump and back to the Super Bowl. If he can’t, his time in Pittsburgh might be coming to an end sooner than anyone expects.
