Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, a leading contender for the Heisman Trophy, has revealed that it’s a dream of his to play for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL.
Jeanty, who spent part of his childhood in Texas, shared his aspirations during an appearance on the Kickin’ It With Dee podcast, stating that playing for the Cowboys would be the perfect situation for both him and his family.
“If I can script it – my family’s all in Texas. All of the connections, all of the relationships, I just feel that would be the perfect city to play in,” Jeanty said.
The 5-foot-9, 215-pound junior has been turning heads nationally with his outstanding season at Boise State, where he currently leads in two of the three primary rushing statistics across college football.
With 1,734 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns, he’s outperformed almost every other collegiate back this season.
Only Texas Tech’s Tahj Brooks has more carries, but Jeanty has put up some of the most explosive performances, recording four 200-yard games.
Last weekend, he rushed for 209 yards against Nevada, helping secure Boise State’s narrow 28-21 win.
Earlier in the season, Jeanty proved he could shine against top-tier competition when he racked up 192 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns against No. 1-ranked Oregon – a game that Boise State nearly won.
Known for his physicality and ferocious running style, Jeanty has become a widely touted NFL prospect, with many analysts naming him the top running back for the upcoming draft class.
Given the Cowboys’ struggles in the ground game this season, Jeanty’s interest could be timely.
Dallas ranks 31st in both rushing yards and touchdowns, with no player reaching 100 yards in a single game.
Veterans like Rico Dowdle and former Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott have been unable to lift the team’s rushing performance, a clear indication that the franchise may need to reset its backfield. (It would be nice to have Derrick Henry, wouldn’t it??)
The Cowboys are also expected to have cap space to bring in new talent, as both Dowdle and Elliott are on one-year deals.
Jeanty’s potential arrival would not only provide a fresh start for Dallas’s rushing attack but also bring a hometown hero into the mix.
A former standout at Lone Star High School, just 40 minutes north of AT&T Stadium, Jeanty was a four-star recruit and one of the top 50 prospects in Texas according to 247Sports.
His presence in Dallas would bring a loyal local following and a shot of energy to the Cowboys’ fan base.
While the running back position has been greatly devalued in recent years, Jeanty certainly looks like the real deal.
Before any NFL dreams can materialize, however, Jeanty and the 8-1 Broncos face a crucial upcoming game against San Jose State.
With a playoff spot well within reach, and possibly the Heisman Trophy, it’s shaping up to be quite a finish to Jeanty’s college career.
And if he has his way, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will be giving him a buzz on draft night.
What are your thoughts on Jeanty as an NFL prospect? … Should Dallas consider drafting him???
