The Tampa Bay Buccaneers just got some tough news. Safety Jordan Whitehead was involved in a car accident this morning and won’t be suiting up for their game against the New Orleans Saints tomorrow.1
The Bucs are placing him on the non-football injury list, which means he’ll also be out for any playoff games they might play. It’s a tough blow for the team, especially with safety Antoine Winfield Jr. and cornerback Jamel Dean already ruled out for Sunday’s game.
The good news is that Whitehead is reportedly in good condition overall. But unfortunately, his injuries are significant enough to keep him sidelined for multiple weeks.
This is a tough break for Whitehead, who just returned to action last week after missing four games with a pectoral injury.2 He’s been a key part of the Bucs’ defense this season, racking up 79 tackles and 3 passes defended in 12 games.
The Buccaneers are in a tight race for the NFC South title, and they need all hands on deck. They’ll have to rely on their depth to step up in Whitehead’s absence. They’ve already signed Ryan Neal from the practice squad to help fill the void.3
It’s never good to see a player get injured, especially in a car accident. We wish Jordan Whitehead a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field soon.
