The New York Jets are heading into an offseason full of uncertainty, and the biggest question mark revolves around their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.1 After a disappointing season, many are wondering if Rodgers has played his last game in a Jets uniform.

But Jets legend Joe Namath has made it clear that he wants Rodgers back. He recently took to social media to express his support for Rodgers, saying, “There’s no doubt he’s got at least another year in him.” And guess who echoed that sentiment? Jets running back Breece Hall!

Hall reposted Namath’s message, signaling his desire to have Rodgers back as the team’s QB1. It’s not hard to see why Hall would want Rodgers to stay. Despite the Jets’ struggles this season, Rodgers put up some impressive numbers. He threw for nearly 3,900 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. That’s actually one of the best seasons by a quarterback in Jets history!

Rodgers is also a well-respected leader in the locker room, and it seems like his teammates genuinely enjoy playing with him. But here’s the catch: bringing Rodgers back comes with a hefty price tag.

His contract includes a $35 million option bonus that automatically kicks in if he’s on the roster in Week 1 of 2025. And because of the way his deal is structured, the Jets would be stuck with a massive $63 million in dead cap space when his contract expires after the 2025 season. That’s a lot of money to tie up in a quarterback who might be nearing the end of his career.

The other option is to cut Rodgers this offseason and take a $49 million dead cap hit.2 That’s a tough pill to swallow, but it would give the Jets more financial flexibility in the long run.

So, while Hall and his teammates might be hoping for another year with Rodgers, the reality is that it’s probably not going to happen. The financials just don’t make sense for the Jets, and they might be better off moving on and finding a younger, more affordable quarterback.

It’s a tough situation for the Jets, and it’ll be interesting to see how they handle this offseason. But one thing’s for sure: Aaron Rodgers’ future in New York is hanging in the balance.
