The Buffalo Bills have made a series of bold moves in free agency, bolstering their defense with the signings of veterans Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, and Larry Ogunjobi. However, these acquisitions come with a caveat: both Hoecht and Ogunjobi will be suspended for the first six games of the 2025 season due to positive tests for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
General Manager Brandon Beane confirmed that the Bills were aware of Hoecht’s positive test at the time of signing. Ogunjobi, on the other hand, learned of his failed test this week, causing a slight delay in finalizing his one-year, $8.3 million contract. Hoecht signed a three-year deal worth $21 million.
Despite these suspensions, the Bills proceeded with the signings, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening their defensive line. This aggressive approach to free agency also included the addition of former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Josh Palmer on a three-year, $36 million contract.
Furthermore, the Bills secured the long-term future of their franchise quarterback, Josh Allen, by agreeing to a six-year, $330 million contract extension. These moves highlight the Bills’ dedication to building a competitive roster and solidifying their core players. The team’s active participation in free agency signals their intent to contend for a championship in the upcoming seasons, even with the initial setback of the player suspensions.
