The New Orleans Saints are making a colossal mistake by targeting Kellen Moore as their next head coach. While Moore is a talented offensive coordinator, his lack of head coaching experience is a major red flag. The Saints, with a young quarterback like Spencer Rattler, desperately need a proven leader who knows how to develop talent. Choosing Moore is a gamble that’s likely to backfire spectacularly.
The Saints’ pursuit of Moore over Mike McCarthy is utterly baffling. McCarthy, despite his recent dismissal from Dallas, has a proven track record of success. He took the Cowboys to the playoffs and consistently fielded a top-14 offense. More importantly, he has a history of developing quarterbacks, turning Aaron Rodgers into a Hall of Famer and helping Dak Prescott reach his potential. This is precisely what the Saints need for Rattler or a rookie QB.
Moore, on the other hand, is a complete unknown as a head coach. Being a successful coordinator doesn’t guarantee success in the top job. The Saints’ recent experience with Dennis Allen proves this. They went the first-time head coach route, and it was a disaster. Why repeat the same mistake? Moore will be walking into a tough situation in New Orleans. Outside of Kamara and Olave, the roster isn’t overflowing with talent. Handing the reigns to an inexperienced coach sets him up for failure.
