The Cowboys have officially entered the twilight zone. Jerry Jones’ decision to hire Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach is nothing short of a complete and utter disaster. This is a franchise desperately trying to recapture past glory, and they’ve just handed the keys to a guy who has never even been a head coach at any level.
Schottenheimer’s resume is underwhelming, to say the least. He’s bounced around the league as an offensive coordinator, but he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. And he wasn’t even calling plays for the Cowboys last year! This is a recipe for mediocrity, not a championship.
Jones’ comments about taking risks are laughable. This isn’t a risk, it’s a surrender. He’s essentially admitting that he’s given up on finding a qualified coach and is settling for a retread who’s unlikely to make any significant changes.
The Cowboys had a chance to hire Kellen Moore, a young and innovative offensive mind who just led the Eagles to the Super Bowl. But instead, they chose the safe and uninspiring option. This is a franchise stuck in the past, and this hire is just another nail in their coffin.
Get ready for another decade of disappointment, Cowboys fans. This team is going nowhere with Schottenheimer at the helm.
