The New Orleans Saints stand alone as the only NFL franchise yet to name a new head coach after all the other teams with vacancies have filled their positions.
Despite the ongoing search, the organization appears in no rush to make a decision.
Perhaps that’s because they’re waiting until after the Super Bowl to name Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore their new head coach.
Amid speculation about possible changes within the team, former Saints quarterback Drew Brees addressed whether he might take on a role with the franchise in the future.
Speaking with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brees remained noncommittal.
“I don’t know, we’ll see,” Brees said. “It’s in my blood. It always will be. I’m always going to be a Saint and whether it’s direct or indirect, yes I will always say ‘we.’
“That’s my team, my organization from the perspective that I take so much pride in what we built and accomplished. I’m always a resource to help and I’ll always be there to support.”
Brees, who retired following the 2020 season, has stayed connected to the Saints and previously shared his thoughts on the team’s coaching search.
In a previous interview with The Spun, Brees praised the available candidates but refrained from naming a preferred choice.
“I think we have some great options and we’ll let that process play out,” he said. “I think, at the end of the day, it was unfortunate that we had so many injuries this year.
“We were decimated at the skill positions on offense and had a lot of injuries up front too with the offensive line.
“It felt like a ton of the burden fell on the defense, which still has a ton of great core pieces and really played at a high level.”
While it may be unrealistic at this current time, there are many Saints fans who wish Brees himself would consider being the new head coach…
Brees, a 20-year NFL veteran and future Hall of Famer, led the Saints to a victory in Super Bowl XLIV over the Indianapolis Colts.
Over the course of his career, he amassed 80,358 passing yards, 571 touchdowns, and 243 interceptions, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest quarterbacks in league history.
While it looks like Kellen Moore is likely the next head coach, some fans are hoping that Brees might throw his hat in the ring.
What are your thoughts on the Saints’ coaching search? … Is Moore indeed the best man for the job?
Looking ahead, do you think Brees will end up rejoining the franchise in some capacity???
