With Aaron Rodgers Looming, Browns Target Polarizing QB

Believe it or not, Carson Wentz could very well be the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns next season.

That’s right … According to reports, it’s a real possibility – depending on how the quarterback dominoes fall in the coming weeks.

Veteran NFL reporter Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that Wentz and the Cleveland Browns “definitely have mutual interest.”

Of course, a potential signing hinges on whether the team moves forward with Russell Wilson.

Wilson visited the Browns last week as part of his ongoing free agency tour. He also met with the New York Giants, leaving his future uncertain for now.

If Cleveland passes on Wilson, Wentz could become a serious option as a bridge quarterback.

The Browns recently traded for former Steelers starter Kenny Pickett, who’s also expected to be in the mix under center.

Although it seems like Wentz has been in the NFL forever, he’s still just 32 years old and is hungry for another opportunity to start.

Starter or not, one thing he would surely bring is plenty of veteran experience.

Once the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz’s career has taken him across the league in recent years, with stops in Indianapolis, Washington, Los Angeles, and Kansas City.

Ironically, the Browns had a chance to draft Wentz back in 2016 but chose to trade the No. 2 pick to Philadelphia, passing on the opportunity to make him their franchise QB.

Now, nearly a decade later, that door may be swinging back open.

Wentz spent last season with the Kansas City Chiefs, serving as Patrick Mahomes’ backup.

He appeared in three regular-season games – one of them against the Browns – and made a single start. He finished the year completing 12-of-19 passes for 118 yards.

While nothing is imminent, Wentz’s name remains one to watch in Cleveland’s ongoing quarterback search.

As Cabot reports, the mutual interest is very real. Now it’s just a matter of how the rest of the market shakes out.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of Wentz taking the quarterback reins in Cleveland???
