The Los Angeles Rams, fresh off a hard-fought victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football, have claimed the top spot in the NFC West with just three games remaining in the regular season.
After an agonizing weekend of waiting to see how the rest of the division fared, the Rams emerged in first place, a stunning turnaround from their 1-4 start to the season.
Since their bye week, the Rams have gone on an impressive run, winning seven of their last nine games and positioning themselves as a potential postseason threat.
Head coach Sean McVay is determined to keep his team grounded, emphasizing that their current standing means little unless they sustain their momentum.
“It doesn’t change anything that we have talked about for the last handful of weeks,” McVay said. “Unless the season ended today, it’s all just temporary. We’ve got to continue to be one day at a time, one moment at a time, and one game at a time.”
While the Rams are laser-focused on their remaining games, rumors have swirled about the potential return of star defensive lineman Aaron Donald, who shared a cryptic photo on social media.
If Donald were to rejoin the team, his presence would provide a massive boost as the Rams push for the playoffs.
When asked about Donald’s possible comeback, McVay downplayed the speculation, stating he respects Donald’s decision-making process.
“I would almost feel disrespectful reaching out to him, just based on the principles and knowing him the way that I do,” McVay said. “If that was something that he got interested in, then that would obviously be something that you’re always open to.”
Although a reunion with Donald remains uncertain, the thought of the future Hall of Famer lining up alongside rookies Braden Fiske and Jared Verse during a critical playoff run has sparked excitement among fans.
For now, however, the Rams will have to move forward without Donald in their plans.
Another intriguing possibility for the Rams is the return of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who was recently released by the Miami Dolphins.
While McVay admitted on Monday that the team has yet to discuss bringing Beckham back, he didn’t close the door on the idea.
“That’s not something we’ve talked about yet,” McVay said.
Last week, McVay expressed his fondness for Beckham, recalling the receiver’s valuable contributions to the team’s 2021 Super Bowl run.
“The love I have for Odell, you know that,” McVay said. “Just waking up, kind of getting ready for what’s next for us, and focusing on this. I’m not really sure about him. I’ve had a lot of other things that we’re kind of focused on right now.”
To be perfectly honest, Beckham wouldn’t bring much to the table for McVay and the Rams. His best days are long behind him and he would struggle to earn an active roster spot on game day.
On the other hand, Donald would be interesting.
Despite being out of football, Donald has been keeping in shape and it’s safe to assume he would still have an impact, even in spot duty.
Either way, the Rams are looking like one of the most dangerous teams in the entire league as the postseason nears.
What are your thoughts on Donald possibly coming out of retirement???
