Tom Brady’s Actually Rooting For Patrick Mahomes To Pass Him?

Tom Brady’s football journey has come full circle.

In just his second season as an NFL quarterback, he won his first Super Bowl in New Orleans. Now, in his first year as a broadcaster, he’ll be back in the Big Easy – this time calling the game for FOX.

During a recent appearance on the Let’s Go! podcast, Brady was asked by host Jim Gray whether he’s rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs to make history as the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

His response? … Well, he’s not picking sides – but he certainly respects greatness.

“I’m broadcasting the game, so I don’t really have a rooting interest per se,” Brady said. “The only thing I root for in these situations are great games.”

That said, Brady admitted he’d be happy for the Chiefs if they pull off the historic three-peat.

“The only thing I root for in these situations are great games,” Brady continued. “I will say if the Chiefs win, I will be very happy for them. I mean, what they’ve achieved is unmatched.

“And I think that’s cool because people always hated on us for so many years. And I didn’t understand it because all I did was like, we try to do things the right way, we try to go out there and compete for our job and win.”

He went on to praise Kansas City’s sustained excellence, comparing their run to his own time with the Patriots.

“And there’s an excellence that I appreciate about people who are doing other things at really high levels because you understand the commitment that it takes for them to do what they’re doing,” Brady added.

“And to be in this country and to not cheer for excellence is beyond me … It’s incredible to see this team withstand all the adversities they faced over the course of not just this season or last season, the year before, they just plowed on, nothing’s distracted them.

“They’ve just continued to push forward and win a lot of games … It’s gonna be a terrific game because there’s a lot on the line for both teams.”

Brady’s comments touch on a larger reality in the NFL: certain teams simply know how to win.

Over the past five years, the Chiefs have now faced either the 49ers or Eagles in the Super Bowl three times.

The league, structured for parity, still sees a handful of franchises dominate while others struggle to stay competitive.

Former NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle once worried about a small group of teams controlling the league in the 1970s.

While the salary cap era was meant to spread success more evenly, some organizations – whether it was Brady’s Patriots or today’s Chiefs – have cracked the code on sustained dominance.

The real issue isn’t that great teams keep winning; it’s that bad teams often stay bad.

As long as that remains the case, expect to see Mahomes, the Chiefs, and a few other elite teams continuing to run the show.

What are your thoughts on Brady’s comments?

Do you think deep-down he’s rooting for the Eagles knowing that Mahomes and the Chiefs will accomplish something he never did if they win on Sunday???
