The Pittsburgh Steelers are at the center of the NFL rumor mill, with speculation running rampant about their next move at quarterback.
With the Minnesota Vikings riding with J.J. McCarthy and the New York Giants signing Russell Wilson, the strong consensus is that it’s only a matter of time before the Steelers sign Aaron Rodgers.
But what is taking so long for an official announcement???
One particularly persistent rumor suggests that Rodgers is waiting to make his decision public during The Pat McAfee Show’s special live event in Pittsburgh on April 9.
Besides being close friends with the four-time MVP, McAfee reportedly pays Rodgers $1 million per year (if not more) for appearing on his show.
Many fans believe that Rodgers will use the special live show in Pittsburgh to dramatically announce his decision to sign with the Steelers.
However, McAfee himself is here to put that theory to rest once and for all.
Speaking on his show, McAfee bluntly dismissed the idea that Rodgers would use his event as a platform for such a massive decision.
“That’s crazy. It’s hilarious to think about. I do appreciate that people think that is possible,” McAfee said.
While McAfee downplayed the speculation, Rodgers’ future remains uncertain.
The Steelers reportedly have an offer on the table, but the future Hall of Famer has yet to commit.
Retirement is still an option, and some insiders believe Rodgers may be waiting to see if the Vikings become discouraged with McCarthy’s healing process and decide to change their stance.
Meanwhile, A.J. Hawk, McAfee’s co-host and a longtime friend and former teammate of Rodgers in Green Bay, shed some light on the quarterback’s affinity for the Steelers organization.
“I do know that he actually really likes all the Pittsburgh staff,” Hawk said. “He loves the staff, front office, everything about Pittsburgh. That’s what makes the Steelers the Steelers from the top down. I think he definitely loves all them.”
For now, the NFL world waits.
Whether Rodgers chooses to sign with the Steelers, hold out for the Vikings, or step away from the game altogether remains to be seen.
Either way, some fans are choosing not to take McAfee at his word and think the special event in Pittsburgh is exactly where Rodgers will make his announcement.
Where do you stand on the issue? … Do you think April 9 is indeed when we find out once and for all where Rodgers will be taking his snaps next season???
