The legendary Terry Bradshaw is an NFL icon both on and off the field.
After one of the most impressive playing careers the league has ever seen, Bradshaw got into broadcasting where he has been a respected voice for decades.
Along with his knowledge of the game, Bradshaw’s personality and self-deprecating nature has made him a beloved figure in the football world.
However, Bradshaw found himself in hot water during yesterday’s edition of FOX NFL Sunday.
Bradshaw mistakenly referred to Rob Gronkowski, a regular analyst on the show, as a guest rather than a permanent member of the team.
The incident occurred during a discussion about the Detroit Lions’ dominant 52-6 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at Ford Field.
Bradshaw, while addressing Gronkowski, said, “The guy whose seat you’re sitting in right now, filling in for… Jimmy Johnson,” referring to the 81-year-old former Dallas Cowboys coach, who had been announced earlier in the week as taking time off.
The slip-up prompted the crew to clarify that Gronkowski is not just a fill-in but a regular feature on the show.
Bradshaw quickly acknowledged his error, stating, “Okay, I made a mistake,” he admitted. “All right, all right, I apologize, Gronk, you know I love you.”
After the lighthearted apology, Bradshaw transitioned back to discussing the Lions’ win, stressing the importance of respecting one’s opponents.
“My point is – Jimmy had the same approach,” Bradshaw said. “Jimmy’s thing as a coach was, ‘Always respect your opponent’. No matter how, you say, inferior, always respect your opponent and don’t ever give them hope.”
While this misstep wasn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things, it was hardly the first time that Bradshaw has slipped up on-air.
He often struggles while narrating highlight segments and has misidentified players before – even confusing Jared Goff with Sam Darnold.
Meanwhile, Gronkowski, who first joined FOX in 2019 and returned in 2022, has become a staple on both FOX NFL Sunday and FOX NFL Kickoff.
The former tight end briefly left the network to play alongside Tom Brady at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, helping secure his fifth Super Bowl ring in 2021 before retiring again in 2022.
As far as Bradshaw’s slip, it’s safe to assume that Gronk took no offense to it whatsoever. However, it would be nice if Terry knew who was on his team, don’t you think???
