The Tennessee Titans have officially claimed the top spot in the 2025 NFL Draft following the New England Patriots’ Week 18 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
With the No. 1 overall pick in hand, Tennessee is poised to address its dire need for a franchise quarterback.
The Titans’ struggles at the quarterback position have been well-documented.
Will Levis has failed to solidify himself as a long-term solution, and Mason Rudolph hasn’t provided the spark the team desperately needs.
Now, with a clear path to all of the top prospects, Tennessee’s decision-making could shape the future of the franchise.
While not the strongest of quarterback classes, some of the top prospects include Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Quinn Ewers, Carson Beck, and Jaxson Dart.
A wild card name to keep your eye on is Penn State quarterback Drew Allar.
Although Allar recently stated that he intends to remain in Happy Valley for one more season, there are rumblings that he could declare for the draft if he has a strong showing against Notre Dame tomorrow night.
Allar has all of the tools to be the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. However, as we stand now, the expectation is that he’ll remain at Penn State. … We’ll see what happens.
Regardless, according to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, the Titans are “rumored to love Cam Ward” and are leaning towards drafting him with the top overall pick.
Ward’s rise has been meteoric. During the 2024 college football season, he delivered an extraordinary performance, completing 67.2% of his passes for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.
Additionally, he showcased his mobility, amassing 204 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
At 6-foot-2 and just under 225 pounds, Ward offers an enticing combination of size, athleticism, and a strong arm.
Scouts have praised his ability to extend plays under pressure and his knack for delivering big-time throws, further solidifying his case as a top pick.
Having said that, some evaluators were not too pleased by Ward’s controversial decision to pull himself out of Miami’s recent bowl game against Iowa State.
One thing is for sure, a new general manager will help make the final decision when it comes to who to select with the No. 1 pick.
That’s because the Titans fired GM Ran Carthon yesterday.
“I’ve loved the time I’ve spent with Ran. He’s a talented football mind, a great man, and friend to everyone along his path,” Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement.
“It’s impossible to ignore that our football team hasn’t improved over the past two years. I am deeply disappointed in our poor win-loss record during this period, of course, but my decision also speaks to my concern about our long-term future should we stay the course.
“I love this team more than you can imagine. To our fans: we know this level of performance isn’t acceptable. We’re humbled by your support as we continue to work towards building the team you expect and deserve.”
President of football operations Chad Brinker will lead the search for a new general manager.
What are your thoughts on the reports that the Titans are leaning towards picking Ward with the first-overall pick?
Of course, things can change between now and April. But as we stand now, who do YOU think should be at the top of Tennessee’s draft board???
