The Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping their options wide open as they navigate their quarterback situation heading into the 2025 season.
Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, Steelers general manager Omar Khan made it clear that nothing is off the table when it comes to the team’s quarterback plans.
“I’d say, ideally we’d like to keep one of the guys we had with us last year,” Khan said. “We don’t have anyone under contract, so until that happens, all options are on the table.”
The Steelers’ 2024 season featured a quarterback carousel between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
Fields started the team’s first six games, leading Pittsburgh to a solid 4-2 record before Wilson returned from injury and took over under center.
While the Steelers were in a strong position at 10-3 following a Week 14 victory over the Browns, the season unraveled down the stretch.
Pittsburgh lost four consecutive games to close out the regular season and then fell in the Wild Card round to the Ravens – an outcome that left Khan disappointed.
“There are good things from both of them,” Khan said of Wilson and Fields. “Glad to have had both of them with us. It was a good experience. Both of them are really good people.
“But the reality is, we ended the season with five straight losses and that’s not good enough. That’s unacceptable. And from top to bottom in the organization, we’ve got to be better.”
Despite the rough finish, Khan praised both quarterbacks for their leadership and professionalism throughout the season.
However, when asked what the Steelers are now seeking at quarterback, his response was simple and direct.
“We’re just looking for the guy, the player that’s going to help us win our ultimate goal, which is a championship,” Khan said.
With no quarterbacks currently under contract, Pittsburgh enters the offseason with a major decision ahead.
Whether the Steelers bring back Wilson, Fields, or look elsewhere for a new signal-caller remains to be seen – but Khan has made it clear that every possibility is in play.
