Steelers Legend Reveals QB Plans Amid Aaron Rodgers Rumors

The Pittsburgh Steelers are once again at a crossroads when it comes to their quarterback situation heading into the 2025 season.

A year after completely overhauling the position – moving on from (now Super Bowl champion) Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitchell Trubisky – Pittsburgh brought in Russell Wilson on a one-year deal and traded for Justin Fields, who played out the final season of his rookie contract.

Despite both quarterbacks getting opportunities under center, neither solidified himself as the long-term answer.

The Steelers have publicly stated they’re open to bringing back one of them, but a reunion with both seems unlikely.

Of course, Pittsburgh could decide to take an entirely different path.

And if you ask former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, that path might lead straight to Aaron Rodgers.

Cowher, who knows the Rooney family as well as anyone, believes the Steelers could at least explore a conversation with the former Jets and Packers quarterback.

“Yeah. I mean I don’t know where they are right now in terms of their quarterback situation with Russell, Justin, and Aaron. I think a decision has to be made,” Cowherd said on The Dan Patrick Show.

“What’s the future plan and what is the plan in the interim? I think there’s got to be also a sense of urgency and taking some guys on the back end of their careers. T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, they’re in the latter stages of their careers so they want to win now and that’s a big part of what they want to do.

“But, you’ve also got to have a plan moving forward at that position so I think there will be dialogue there but those will be conversations taking place in that building.”

Could the Steelers really consider bringing in Rodgers while also keeping Wilson or Fields? It’s not impossible.

However, if the Steelers are to acquire Rodgers, the more likely scenario would be for them to let both Wilson and Fields walk and draft a young quarterback to groom and develop behind Aaron.

(Although some Steelers fans would love to hold onto Fields and have him take over when Rodgers finally retires.)

With free agency and the draft looming, the Steelers must decide whether to double down on Wilson or Fields, or take Cowher’s hint and look elsewhere – potentially in Rodgers’ direction.

What are your thoughts on Pittsburgh’s fascinating quarterback situation? … Should they pursue Rodgers???
