Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields is making a move to the AFC East, as the 26-year-old quarterback is set to join the New York Jets on a free-agent deal.
According to reports, Fields and Gang Green have agreed to a two-year deal worth $40 million with $30 million guaranteed.
Fields, a former first-round pick by the Chicago Bears, had been widely expected to reunite with the Steelers this offseason, with the team eyeing him as their full-time starter for the 2025 season.
However, as discussions between Fields and the Steelers began to stall, it became clear that the Jets were increasingly likely to make a move for the polarizing quarterback.
According to reports, Fields had been keeping a close eye on the Jets and expressed his desire to play for the team behind the scenes.
Fields will now join a young and dynamic offense in New York. Among his new teammates is Garrett Wilson, a wide receiver he previously played with at Ohio State.
Additionally, Fields will have the chance to develop chemistry with talented running back Breece Hall and second-year wide receiver Malachi Corley.
The Jets are coming off a disappointing 5-12 season with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, and the franchise is eager to turn the page under a new coaching staff and now, a new quarterback.
Fields will be a cornerstone of the Jets’ plans, alongside head coach Aaron Glenn, as the organization looks to make significant strides moving forward.
As the Jets embark on this new chapter, the partnership between Fields and Glenn will be crucial as they seek to build a team capable of competing for years to come.
Despite his brief time in Pittsburgh, Fields had become a fan favorite and many Steelers fans were hoping he’d be their starting quarterback going forward.
Interestingly, the QB Fields is set to replace in New York is who might’ve – in a way – ended his days in Pittsburgh.
Of course I’m referring to Aaron Rodgers. Depending on what you believe, we could be mere minutes away from Rodgers striking a deal with the Steelers.
What are your thoughts on Fields’ decision? … From a Steelers perspective, is Rodgers a clear upgrade over him???
