Steelers Excited For Aaron Rodgers To Bring Allen Lazard To Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers may still be in limbo as they await Aaron Rodgers’ decision about his playing future, but that isn’t stopping them from preparing for a potential reunion between the veteran quarterback and one of his most trusted targets.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, wide receiver Allen Lazard – currently with the New York Jets – is “in play” as a trade option for the Steelers.

Lazard has spent multiple seasons catching passes from Rodgers, both during their time with the Green Bay Packers and more recently with the Jets, making him a logical piece for Pittsburgh to pursue.

The Steelers, now in sudden need of a second wideout following the surprising trade of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, could be looking to fill that gap with a player already familiar with Rodgers’ preferences and play style.

“Why Lazard? Because Rodgers completely and totally trusts him. And Lazard, for whatever reason, performs much better with Rodgers than he does without him,” Florio stated.

Lazard’s numbers in 2024 – 37 receptions, 530 yards, and six touchdowns – won’t blow anyone away, but his chemistry with Rodgers is well-documented.

That connection could prove crucial as Pittsburgh reshapes its passing attack around recently acquired star DK Metcalf and potentially Rodgers, should he officially join the roster.

Lazard had been rumored to be a cap casualty this offseason, but surprised many when he agreed to reduce his 2025 salary from $11 million to $2.5 million.

While that move appeared to set the stage for him to remain in New York, it also made him a more attractive trade candidate for teams like Pittsburgh.

As for Rodgers, the 41-year-old has taken his time in free agency, with little urgency to sign.

However, with the Steelers emerging as the only legitimate suitor, league insiders believe it’s only a matter of time before the future Hall of Famer ends up in Pittsburgh.

If and when that move becomes official, all signs point to Allen Lazard potentially joining Rodgers for a third stop in his career – this time in the Steel City.
