After a standout eighth season with the Cleveland Browns, Myles Garrett is looking for a fresh start.
The star edge rusher has expressed interest in a trade, hoping to join a contender for the next chapter of his career.
Oddsmakers initially favored the Browns to hold onto Garrett, with DraftKings Sportsbook listing them at +300. However, a shift in the betting odds over the past week has made the Washington Commanders the new front-runners at +350.
The odds change follows Garrett’s public comments and a growing belief that Washington could be the perfect destination.
The Commanders, despite finishing 13th in total defense last season, made a surprise run to the NFC Championship Game.
The team is expected to have significant cap space, ranked third in the league behind the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders, according to Over the Cap.
Garrett, who has long been a top-tier defensive presence for the Browns, was asked about Washington during interviews leading up to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
He acknowledged the team’s need for a pass rusher and believes he could make an immediate impact.
“I think they need a pass-rusher. I think that’s something that they dearly missed in the playoffs and some of the big games,” Garrett told Sports Illustrated. “And I feel like I can fill that role, but that’s a role that multiple teams need.”
Garrett’s comments have sparked increased speculation about his next move, with Washington emerging as a logical suitor.
The Commanders’ growing potential and need for a defensive boost align perfectly with Garrett’s skill set.
During an interview with ESPN, Garrett also expressed his admiration for Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels, saying he’d “absolutely” consider joining the young signal caller in Washington.
“He looked great when he played him, but he really showed his behind when he was in the playoffs,” Garrett said of Daniels. “He’s really done it and been very composed throughout the entire season, and he can only continue to flourish if he keeps his head down and continues to work.”
Garrett’s praise didn’t go unnoticed.
The following day, Kay Adams relayed his comments to Daniels, who appreciated the recognition.
“From one of the best defensive players in the league, I mean, it’s just nothing but respect,” Daniels said. “It’s a good feeling when your peers respect you like that.”
With Washington now seen as the favorite to land Garrett, the betting odds reflect the growing belief that the edge rusher could soon be joining the Commanders.
The Browns, Buffalo Bills, and Philadelphia Eagles each trail at +550, with the Detroit Lions listed at +650.
As Garrett looks for a new home, the Commanders are making their case as the most promising option.
When it’s all said and done, where do you think Garrett will end up???
