Shocking Ben Johnson Report Sparks Speculation

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, regarded as one of the top coaching candidates during last offseason’s hiring frenzy, ultimately chose to remain with the Lions – much to the franchise’s benefit.

Johnson, who had interviews with multiple teams, cited his belief in Detroit’s potential as a key reason for staying.

Needless to say, his decision looks brilliant as the Lions are undoubtedly one of the strongest Super Bowl contenders in the entire NFL.

According to some respected football voices, the Lions are not only Super Bowl contenders, they are downright unstoppable when they play up to their potential…

It’s no secret that Johnson has been the hot-shot name on the market the past few coaching cycles.

Interestingly, Albert Breer of TheMMQB revealed that Johnson had his eyes set on one high-profile job in particular: the Chicago Bears.

“He was definitely looking at the Chicago job last year,” Breer reported. “There were some who said that was the one he wanted.”

Ultimately, Chicago chose to retain head coach Matt Eberflus, who entered this season with a 14-27 record over his first three years.

The Bears are currently 4-3 but suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, falling on the final play to a Hail Mary pass from Jayden Daniels.

Eberflus has been a polarizing figure in Chicago to say the least. His critics can’t be too thrilled to know that they most likely would’ve been able to hire Johnson had the job been open last winter.

Regardless, Johnson and the Lions are flying high once again this season. With the NFC wide open, Detroit has a strong chance to break through and make it to the Super Bowl.

What are your thoughts on Breer’s report?

Not to look ahead, but do you think the upcoming end-of-season coaching cycle is the one where we finally see Johnson leave Detroit???
