With the NFL Draft fast approaching, speculation continues to swirl around where Shedeur Sanders will land.
Though early projections had him in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick, it appears the Tennessee Titans are no longer in play – reportedly shifting their focus to Miami’s Cam Ward and even canceling a scheduled private workout with Sanders.
But the University of Colorado quarterback remains firmly on the radar of several teams.
According to reports, Sanders is meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers today.
Despite not meeting with Sanders at the NFL Scouting Combine and skipping his Pro Day last week, the Steelers – who hold the 21st pick – are clearly doing their due diligence now.
Head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith were all absent from Colorado’s Pro Day. Still, Sanders drew plenty of eyes.
Sanders’ college career paints the picture of a highly productive and efficient quarterback. However, he didn’t always play the best of competition. (But neither did Ben Roethlisberger in college.)
At Jackson State, Sanders threw for 6,976 yards, 70 touchdowns, and only 14 interceptions over three seasons – one of which he redshirted without attempting a pass. The Tigers went 23-3 with him under center.
Following his transfer to Colorado, Sanders maintained that high level of play despite tougher competition.
In two seasons with the Buffaloes, he completed 71.8% of his passes for 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, while the team posted a 13-11 record.
Sanders has also reportedly visited the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, with several other franchises rumored to have expressed interest.
While his name may no longer be at the top of the draft board, his blend of accuracy, production, and poise continues to draw attention from teams seeking a quarterback of the future.
Interestingly, the New Orleans Saints are currently viewed as the betting favorites to draft Sanders at No. 9.
Having said that, could you see the Steelers trading up to draft Sanders???
Who knows? With the way things seem to headed, Sanders could even still be on the board when Pittsburgh is on the clock at No. 21 … Would he be too good to pass up if that were the case???
