Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon didn’t hold back after his team’s commanding 32-12 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, delivering a fiery response to ESPN analyst Rex Ryan.
Following the game, Mixon went live on Instagram from inside the Texans’ locker room, where the atmosphere was celebratory.
With music playing in the background and teammates dancing, Mixon lit up a cigar and addressed Ryan’s pregame comments head-on.
“Smokin’ on that Rex Ryan bye week pack,” Mixon said, referencing Ryan’s earlier statement on ESPN that the Chargers’ road wild-card matchup against the Texans would essentially be a “bye week” for LA.
Mixon’s standout performance on the field fueled his response.
The star running back carried the ball 25 times for 106 yards and scored a touchdown, silencing any doubts about the Texans’ ability to compete.
Ryan, a former NFL head coach for the New York Jets (2009-2014) and Buffalo Bills (2015-2016), has been in the spotlight recently, as the Jets interviewed him for their vacant head coaching position.
If Ryan does return to coaching, Mixon’s remarks serve as a reminder to tread carefully when making bold statements about opposing players and teams.
For now, Mixon and the Texans are relishing their impressive victory.
While Rex was a little cocky with his prediction, the fact of the matter is most people thought the Chargers were going to beat Houston.
Instead, Mixon and the Texans flexed their muscles and proved the doubters wrong. They deserve a ton of credit for that.
Now, the path gets much tougher as they head to Kansas City to face the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Chiefs.
What are your thoughts on Mixon’s comments?
More importantly, do you give the Texans any shot at upsetting Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs this coming weekend???
