Rex Ryan Set To Join Cowboys In Shocker

The Dallas Cowboys are undergoing a significant coaching overhaul this offseason after parting ways with head coach Mike McCarthy.

The organization has been linked to several candidates for the head coaching role, including both internal and external prospects.

Among the names reportedly in contention are Brian Schottenheimer, Kellen Moore and Deion Sanders (unlikely).

However, all signs are currently pointing to Schottenheimer being the favorite to land the job.

Interestingly, if the Cowboys do hire Schottenheimer as head coach, there is major speculation that he could bring in former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan as his defensive coordinator.

This would mark a reunion for the pair, who previously worked together with the Jets from 2009 to 2011.

During that time, Schottenheimer served as offensive coordinator under Ryan, and the duo led the team to consecutive AFC Championship appearances.

Ryan previously expressed confidence in his ability to improve the Cowboys’ defense.

Speaking in September, Ryan actually revealed that he almost took the Dallas DC job before Jerry Jones cheaped-out.

“I could’ve fixed [the Cowboys’ defense] in a New York minute. But, that being said, they couldn’t pony up the money, or I would’ve been there,” Ryan said at the time.

Ryan also didn’t shy away from criticizing the Cowboys’ decision to hire Mike Zimmer as defensive coordinator instead of him.

“You brought in a guy that was 29th in the league his last two years at Minnesota, the enthusiasm he brings when he left, that’s the guy that’s gonna inspire you? This can go really bad for Dallas,” Ryan said.

Unfortunately for Dallas, the 2024 season did not go as hoped, leaving many fans skeptical about the team’s direction.

Some are already questioning whether Schottenheimer, if hired, is the right fit to lead the team going forward.

Of course, many fans feel that Jerry Jones is the main problem and nothing will improve until he’s no longer in control of the franchise.

What are your thoughts on the reports that a Schottenheimer-Ryan partnership could soon take place in Big D???
