Rex Ryan Makes Shocking Comments On Coaching Future

In many ways, the New York Jets were very fortunate to come away with their 21-13 victory over the banged-up Houston Texans last night at the Meadowlands.

Regardless, it was a virtual must-win for Aaron Rodgers and Gang Green – and they got the job done. As we know, that’s all that matters.

Now sitting at 3-6, the Jets remain alive (barely) in the AFC playoff picture.

Robert Saleh is long gone, being fired by Jets owner Woody Johnson back in early October. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich picked up his first win last night after a rough start at the head of the helm.

Speaking of Jets head coaches – One of the most popular figures the franchise has ever had is former head coach Rex Ryan.

While he was far from perfect, Ryan guided the Jets to real, legitimate success during his tenure in New York. Interestingly, he shared some very interesting thoughts on what the future may hold for him.

Appearing on The Dan Patrick Show, Ryan was asked if he had any interest in rejoining the Jets for a round 2 as head coach…

ā€œI would definitely take it, but not as an interim guy, no chance. As a full-time guy next year or whatever, absolutely,ā€ Ryan admitted.

ā€œBecause I believe in the talent there. I know the ownership group and I love the fan base. At the same time, Iā€™m not the only guy, there would be a million guys lined up for that job. I hope I get the opportunity.ā€

Patrick challenged Ryan, questioning if the Jets head coaching position was as desirable as he believed, citing the uncertain future of Rodgers.

Ryan, however, saw Rodgers as an asset, albeit with conditions.

ā€œWell, that would be part of the thing that would attract you,ā€ he said. ā€œBut youā€™ve got to make sure heā€™s 100% committed to the team, I think thatā€™s going to be the big thing. It canā€™t just be on his terms.ā€

Having been away from the NFL coaching scene since his departure from the Buffalo Bills in 2016, Ryan has consistently expressed interest in a return to the sidelines.

Known for his fiery personality and defensive mind, Ryanā€™s tenure with the Jets resulted in a 46-50 record – but he did guide the team to two AFC Championship Game appearances.

What are your thoughts on Ryan being open to returning to the Jets?

Of course, it’s a two-way street – Woody Johnson and the front office would have to actually want him … Should they?

As for Rodgers, how many more years do you think he’ll play? … There are rumblings that he may retire after this season – Can you see that happening???
