Former NFL star LeSean McCoy isn’t holding back his opinions on Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
The six-time Pro Bowl running back recently took to social media to share his thoughts on Murray’s career, making it clear that he isn’t impressed.
Murray, who is about to enter his sixth season with the Cardinals, has been reflecting on his achievements.
Drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in 2019, the 5-foot-10, 207-pound quarterback recently highlighted his accomplishments during a media session.
“To go 43-0 in high school in Texas – Some are gonna say ‘Oh, it’s high school,’ that’s cool. But nobody else has done it. Go to college, win the Heisman. Get drafted No. 1 overall to the NFL, get drafted No. 9 overall to MLB. Again, no one’s ever done it,” Murray said.
He continued, “Offensive rookie of the year, two-time Pro Bowler. And I’m not 6-foot-7, 230 [pounds]. I don’t throw the ball 85 yards. I’m already behind the eight ball, I can’t afford to take any shortcuts, no pun intended.”
However, McCoy wasn’t impressed by Murray’s list of accolades.
“lol and what has that gotten u ??? Mid NFL career??? What we talking bout [sic],” McCoy posted on social media.
Murray’s performance in the NFL has indeed been a mixed bag.
After a strong rookie season that earned him Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, he went on to secure Pro Bowl selections in his next two seasons and led the Cardinals to a playoff berth in his third year.
Yet, injuries have hampered his career, particularly a torn ACL that limited him to just 19 games over the last two seasons.
In 2023, he threw for 1,799 yards, 10 touchdowns, five interceptions, and an 89.4 passer rating over eight games, but the Cardinals only won three of those matchups.
Murray has been a polarizing figure both on and off the field. There have been reports that he has a poor work-ethic and doesn’t take football as serious as he should.
While the Cardinals tried their best to downplay it, the fact of the matter is they did initially put in an unprecedented clause in Murray’s contract which pulled back the curtain on their concerns over him.
It’s also a little strange that Murray felt the need to list off his accomplishments and accolades. Let’s fact it – it’s not a good look and it’s something that will always lead to criticism.
Meanwhile, McCoy, who enjoyed a successful 12-year career with stints on the Eagles, Bills, Chiefs, and Buccaneers, was a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time First Team All-Pro.
He’s far from alone with his critiques of Murray, especially since the controversial quarterback has yet to have any success in the playoffs.
