As May winds down, quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains a free agent – still unsigned by the Pittsburgh Steelers despite ongoing speculation.
While there has been no official movement, Rodgers’ former head coach Matt LaFleur believes the veteran quarterback will ultimately end up in black and gold.
LaFleur, who coached Rodgers for four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, shared his thoughts during an appearance with Kay Adams on Up and Adams.
Although there has been no contact between him and the Steelers’ coaching staff regarding Rodgers, LaFleur expressed confidence in where things are heading.
“No, nothing. Neither has Arthur Smith, their OC,” LaFleur said, referring to his lack of communication with Pittsburgh. “I haven’t heard from either of those guys in regards to (Aaron Rodgers).”
Despite this, LaFleur still feels a deal is imminent between Rodgers and the Steelers.
“I’m pretty sure they know what they are doing, I’m sure they’re confident in what they’re doing. And I would fully expect him to be a Pittsburgh Steeler,” LaFleur admitted.
Rodgers recently explained the reasons behind his delay in making a decision.
Appearing on Joe Rogan’s ultra-popular podcast, the four-time NFL MVP offered insight into what’s weighing on him off the field.
“I’ve figured it out during the last year when I’ve been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,” Rodgers revealed.
“I’m taking care of my people right now, and I’m taking care of my personal life responsibilities, and I’m keeping the conversation open as well.”
Rodgers previously hinted that off-field issues are preventing him from fully committing to the 2025 season – at least for now.
“I’m in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments I have made.
“I have a couple of people in my inner, inner circle who are battling some difficult stuff. So, I have a lot of things that are taking my attention,” he said.
The veteran quarterback, who entered the league in 2005, is navigating free agency for the first time in his NFL career.
For Rodgers, signing a contract prematurely – before being able to fully commit to offseason preparation – doesn’t align with his current priorities.
Having said that, most people – including LaFleur – think it’s only a matter of time before Rodgers signs with the Steelers.
What are your thoughts on LaFleur’s surprisingly honest take? … Do you think Rodgers will indeed be taking snaps under center in Pittsburgh this season???
