“No Clue” Steelers Blasted For Letting Russell Wilson Leave

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ never-ending quarterback carousel has drawn sharp criticism, with NFL analyst Warren Sharp taking aim at the team’s handling of the position.

“Show me a team that has no clue what it’s doing at the most important position in football: Steelers QB Depth Chart…

2023:
QB1 Kenny Pickett
QB2 Mitch Trubisky
QB3 Mason Rudolph

2024:
QB1 Russell Wilson
QB2 Justin Fields
QB3 Kyle Allen

2025:
QB1 Mason Rudolph
QB2 Skylar Thompson

100% QB room turnover each year.”

Sharp’s critique came in response to yet another shakeup, as Russell Wilson – who helped guide the Steelers to the playoffs last season – signed a one-year deal with the New York Giants yesterday.

The Steelers had previously signaled a desire to retain either Wilson or Justin Fields on a multi-year contract, but Fields was scooped up by the New York Jets at the start of free agency.

Of course, the Steelers are aggressively pursuing four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers and figure to be the heavy favorites to land him.

The 41-year-old former Jets quarterback met with the Steelers last week but left without a deal, fueling speculation about what exactly the future might hold.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh is left playing the waiting game as Rodgers weighs his options, including the possibility of retirement.

To be fair, not every familiar face has left the Steelers’ quarterback room.

Mason Rudolph, who was on the roster in 2023 and saw action in four games, returned to Pittsburgh after a short stint with the Tennessee Titans, where he replaced an underperforming Will Levis.

Rudolph will, however, have to adapt to a new offensive system under coordinator Arthur Smith, who replaced Matt Canada following the 2023 season.

Despite the ongoing instability under center, the Steelers have remained competitive.

They finished 10-7 last season and have not had a losing record since 2003, making the playoffs in four of the last five years. However, postseason success has eluded them – they haven’t won a playoff game since 2016.

Whether Rodgers ultimately signs or Pittsburgh is forced to pivot yet again, one thing is clear: the Steelers’ quarterback conundrum remains far from solved.

What are your thoughts on the QB instability in Pittsburgh in the post-Ben era???
