After months of speculation, the New York Jets have officially decided to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The decision caps off what was undoubtedly one of the most disastrous experiments in NFL history.
Unfortunately, the heartbreaking Achilles injury that Rodgers suffered four offensive plays into the 2023 season completely derailed everything.
Although he hasn’t made any official announcement yet, the vast majority of people believe that Rodgers plans to continue playing.
One of those people is Hall of Famer Steve Young.
Not only does Young think that Rodgers will continue to play, he believes he can regain his old MVP level, especially considering how the league has changed over the years.
“In today’s game, Tom Brady said it best. The flats are always open, the middle of the field is unpatrolled, and no one can hit me. And by the way, I make $50 million dollars,” Young said on The Dan Patrick Show.
“I think that Aaron because he’s healthy a full year, look the mobility is down and everything else, but if he can get to a place that understands the position, has innovative mindsets of more and more places like that, that you can get to where you can take advantage of the new football that’s being played.
“If he can get to one of those spots I’m sure he’d still love to go play some great football, especially with a more innovative mind.”
Of all the Jets problems this season, Rodgers was pretty far down on the list.
While he didn’t play up to his ultra-high standards, he had a better season that what many think, at least individually. (Plus, he played through some injuries that others wouldn’t.)
Having said all that, there’s no sugarcoating the situation. His time in New York, for multiple reasons, was a complete failure.
For now, Rodgers’ future remains uncertain.
But if the right team comes calling, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the legendary quarterback suit up for one final chapter in his storied career.
It could be Pittsburgh. It could be Vegas. It could be Minnesota. Perhaps even the Rams if they move off of Matthew Stafford.
What are your thoughts on Rodgers’ situation? … Do you agree with Young that he can still thrive in the right spot???
