Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is officially part of the NFL rulebook – just not in a way he would have hoped.
The league has implemented a rule change directly banning Lamb’s signature “nose wipe” celebration, categorizing it as a “violent gesture” that will now result in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
According to the updated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(d) in the official rules report sent to teams, the league now prohibits:
“Any violent gesture, which shall include but not be limited to a throat slash, simulating firing or brandishing a gun, or using the “nose wipe” gesture, or an act that is sexually suggestive or offensive.”
“The nose wipe is a gang sign associated with the Bloods, indicating someone is untrustworthy,” according to Pro Football Talk and others.
Lamb, however, doesn’t seem too bothered by the change. He hinted on social media that he has other celebrations ready to go.
Since being drafted in 2020, Lamb has made the nose wipe a signature part of his celebrations while establishing himself as one of the league’s elite receivers.
He’s fresh off his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl season, posting 101 receptions on 152 targets for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games.
Despite Lamb’s individual success, the Cowboys struggled, finishing with a disappointing 7-10 record.
The team has since parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the role.
What are your thoughts on the NFL’s decision to ban the nose wipe celebration???
