We are just six days away from the biggest game of the NFL season to this point.
The back-to-back champion Kansas City Chiefs will travel out west to San Francisco to take on the 49ers in a much-anticipated Super Bowl rematch.
While it’s an out of conference game which doesn’t necessarily carry as much weight as some other matchups might, we all know what is at stake next Sunday.
Despite what any standings might currently show, there’s a very realistic chance that the Chiefs and 49ers are still the two best teams in the NFL and may very well be on a collision course for yet another Super Bowl encounter.
In other words, this isn’t your typical game week in Kansas City.
Or perhaps I’m wrong. After all, news just hit that Chiefs Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce will be attending Game 1 of the ALCS at Yankee Stadium tonight with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
Sure, the Chiefs are off tomorrow, and we know how comfortable those private jets are (or so we’ve heard). However, you can’t blame Kansas City fans for being upset that Kelce is attending a baseball game across the country, especially on Niners week.
There have been no shortage of stories depicting just how annoyed some have become at Kelce for putting football on the back-burner (or so it appears).
Fair or not, the perception is bad. Kelce has been traveling all over the world with Swift and has attended countless events with her over the past year. Not to mention the 2,954 commercials he’s filmed.
All of that is perfectly fine as long as he produces on the field. However, to this point, he hasn’t – at least not at his normal level.
He’s been called out-of-shape and distracted.
While it would surprise no one to see Kelce turn things around and regain his old dominant form, it’s perfectly understandable for Chiefs fans to be a tad concerned about where exactly his priorities are.
Again, if Kelce turns all of this around and ends up helping the Chiefs to a historic third straight Super Bowl title, none of this will matter.
Kelce doesn’t have to care one bit what anyone says about him. However, you have to admit, it’s not the greatest of looks for him to be attending a baseball game in New York on such an important week.
What are your thoughts on the situation? … Am I being way too harsh? Or do Chiefs fans have a right to be concerned about Kelce’s priorities and concentration level???
