Latest “Jets Gonna Jet” Move May Lead To Rex Ryan Reunion

The New York Jets are embarking on a major overhaul, resetting their leadership by replacing both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

In an unconventional move, the team has enlisted former NFL general managers Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman, now prominent figures in football media, to spearhead the search for their successors.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news, highlighting that Tannenbaum and Spielman, both affiliated with The 33rd Team – a football consulting group and media platform – will work alongside team owner Woody Johnson during the process.

This marks a departure from the traditional reliance on executive search firms.

While the decision to involve both Tannenbaum and Spielman in the process may end up working out great, Johnson hasn’t exactly earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his tortured fan base.

In other words, the prevailing thought over this unique decision is “here we go again.”

Of course, Mike Tannenbaum is a familiar name in Jets circles.

He served as the team’s general manager from 2006 to 2012, guiding them to three playoff appearances and two AFC Championship Games.

Meanwhile, Rick Spielman brings an equally robust resume, having led the Minnesota Vikings as GM for 16 seasons.

Under his stewardship, the team made six playoff appearances, including a trip to the NFC Championship Game in 2017.

Spielman and Tannenbaum’s combined experience positions them as strong evaluators with insights into the challenges facing a franchise like the Jets, who haven’t seen playoff action since 2010.

CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones chimed in with his thoughts on the situation and revealed that the Jets hope to get the ball moving rather quickly.

“The Jets hope to interview candidates for at least the general manager position before the end of the regular season,” Jones reported.

“They’re looking to take advantage of the head start the team has in its searches in the wake of firing Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas.”

As for who the next head coach will be, some feel that involving Tannenbaum in the evaluation process will play favorably for the (mostly)-popular Rex Ryan.

Ryan has been very outspoken about his interest in taking back the reigns in Gang Green Land.

With the Jets sitting at 3-8 and desperate to end their 13-year playoff drought, the franchise hopes this calculated and collaborative approach will pave the way for a brighter future.

Is old buddy Rex indeed the right coach to get the Jets back on track???
