Joe Buck’s Brutally Honest Cowboys Admission

While some NFL fans have grown sick and tired of seeing the Dallas Cowboys in primetime, ESPN play-by-play announcer Joe Buck has no such complaints.

In fact, he relishes every opportunity to cover America’s Team, regardless of their record or season outlook.

The Cowboys, sitting at 5-7 and clinging to slim postseason hopes, are set to face the 4-8 Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.

ESPN initially anticipated a more high-stakes matchup when it scheduled the game, but injuries and disappointing performances have dimmed both teams’ playoff prospects.

Despite the game’s diminished allure, the network reportedly couldn’t swap it out due to a planned Simpsons-themed alternative broadcast.

Buck, however, remains enthusiastic.

Speaking to The Musers on 96.7 The Ticket, he expressed his enduring excitement for working Cowboys games, especially alongside his broadcast partner and former Dallas quarterback Troy Aikman.

“I would do them every week,” Buck said of the Cowboys. “I would come to Dallas, enjoy my time in the greater area, and enjoy being in that stadium and doing the Dallas Cowboys every damn week.

“They get eyeballs. They’ve got the biggest star in the NFL; his name is Jerry Jones. And they get people to watch on their television sets.”

Buck described the Cowboys as “the biggest draw in the NFL,” underscoring why their games are highly coveted by networks, no matter how mediocre their record is.

“We got two Dallas home games, and I don’t care what their record is,” Buck added. “I’m always excited to go to Dallas and watch them play and call it into a headset.”

Despite the struggles this season, Dallas has shown signs of life with back-to-back wins.

“There’s always hope, and you never know. Crazy things happen,” Buck continued. “And it would be the greatest story ever penned, ever written if the Dallas Cowboys – with Cooper Rush at quarterback and Dak Prescott in a booth watching from high above – made it into the postseason in 2024.

Kickoff for tonight’s Cowboys-Bengals clash is set for 8:15pm EST.
