For the second consecutive offseason, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has opted for a notably restrained approach when it comes to the free agency and trade markets. While this may leave some Cowboys fans scratching their heads in frustration, it isn’t entirely unexpected. Last year, Jones promised an “all-in” strategy, yet the Cowboys ultimately refrained from making any headline-grabbing moves to bolster their roster.

Instead, Dallas has pivoted back toward familiar territory: building their team through the draft. With the 12th overall selection in what many analysts regard as a deep draft class, the Cowboys find themselves in an advantageous position to secure an immediate contributor. The anticipation of who they will pick is palpable, especially given the caliber of talent available.

In a session with the media, Stephen Jones, Cowboys co-owner and executive vice president, sparked interest with hints of a potentially “explosive” move intended to enhance their offense. According to Tommy Yarrish from the team’s official site, he emphasized that the team is actively pursuing a strong No. 2 wide receiver to complement the star power of CeeDee Lamb.

“There’s definitely an openness to exploring options for a really explosive number two that could upgrade us,” Stephen shared, while also expressing confidence in the wide receiver room as it currently stands.

The Cowboys have been on the hunt for a reliable No. 2 receiver ever since they traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in the 2022 offseason. Michael Gallup was extended in hopes of filling that role, but injuries have thwarted his return to form.

As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the Cowboys are in a prime position to make a significant addition to their receiving corps. The draft pool is rich with wide receiver talent, and while they may not snag the two-way sensation Travis Hunter with that No. 12 pick, they certainly have options. Players like Arizona State’s Tetairoa McMillan, Texas’ Matthew Golden, Missouri’s Luther Burden III, and Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka stand out as top prospects who could make an immediate impact in Dallas’ offense.

As the draft looms closer, Cowboys fans will be keenly watching how this unfolds, knowing that with the right selection, the franchise could ignite a new dynamic in their passing game. It’s a crucial moment for the Cowboys, one that could reshape their offensive identity and bring them closer to their ultimate goal: a Super Bowl title.
