On Sunday, Jared Goff added another historic milestone to his stellar 2024 season.
The Detroit Lions quarterback became just the third player in NFL history to lead two different franchises to 13 or more wins in a season, following a commanding 34-17 victory over the Chicago Bears
“Jared Goff is the 3rd QB with a 13+ win season for multiple franchises in NFL history, Goff joins Peyton Manning + Tom Brady.” The 33rd Team posted on X.
Goff, who achieved the same feat with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018, now shares this rare accomplishment with legends Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.
This achievement highlights Goff’s seamless integration into Detroit’s offense, which has been a powerhouse all season.
The Lions’ 13th win set a new franchise record, marking a banner year for the team.
Goff played a pivotal role in Sunday’s victory, completing 23-of-32 passes for 336 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
His highlights included an electrifying 82-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams, who posted five receptions for 143 yards and a score.
Despite missing key contributors like running back David Montgomery, the Lions’ offense racked up 474 total yards.
Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs stepped up admirably, tallying 154 total yards and a touchdown.
Detroit’s creative play-calling was on full display, particularly during a trick play that resulted in a touchdown for tight end Sam LaPorta.
The play saw Goff fake a stumble, selling a fumble that caused the Chicago defense to lose focus. With the defense drawn in, LaPorta broke free, and Goff found him wide open for an easy score.
“Our coaches do a great job seeing tendencies,” LaPorta said after the game. “We noticed the defense reacted heavily to a fumble, so we used that to our advantage.”
The win improved Detroit’s record to 13-2, keeping them atop the NFC standings in a tight race for the conference’s No. 1 seed alongside the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.
While Detroit’s defense – who is missing several stars – allowed 382 yards to the Bears, their explosive offense once again carried the day.
Chicago rookie quarterback Caleb Williams had a solid performance, throwing for 334 yards and two touchdowns, but the Bears couldn’t keep up with Detroit’s firepower.
As the Lions prepare for the postseason, Goff’s leadership and Detroit’s record-breaking season have solidified their championship aspirations.
By joining the ranks of Brady and Manning, Goff has further cemented his legacy, leading the Lions on a potential historic path.
Is this the year the Lions finally win the Super Bowl???
