Jameis Winston To Steelers Heating Up

Jameis Winston is gearing up for free agency in March, giving him the freedom to choose his next destination.

After spending the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns, the veteran quarterback is weighing his options – and he already has one potential landing spot in mind.

Winston, who began last season as Deshaun Watson’s backup, found himself thrust into the starting role when Watson suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

Across 12 games, he threw for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

It was his first year in Cleveland after a four-year stint with the New Orleans Saints, following five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While he weighs his options, he’s dabbling in a little broadcast work for FOX Sports at the Super Bowl…

Interestingly, as he prepares to hit the open market, Winston has made it clear he’d welcome an opportunity to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaking on Pardon My Take with Big Cat and PFT Commenter, Winston revealed his admiration for Pittsburgh’s longtime head coach, Mike Tomlin.

“I love Pittsburgh because I admire Coach Mike Tomlin so much,” Winston admitted. “The first Super Bowl ring I ever held in my hand was a 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl ring from Bruce Arians. That is definitely aligned with my visions.”

While the Steelers have not publicly expressed interest in Winston, the fit could make sense – albeit in a backup role.

Pittsburgh is currently deciding between keeping Russell Wilson or Justin Fields but is unlikely to retain both quarterbacks. (Or perhaps neither.)

If Winston were to join the Steelers, it would likely be as an experienced reserve option behind whichever signal-caller they commit to as their firm starter.

Since Ben Roethlisberger retired following the 2021 season, the Steelers have struggled to find a long-term answer at quarterback.

Kenny Pickett, their first-round pick in 2022, failed to establish himself as the future of the franchise and was recently traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In response, Pittsburgh overhauled its quarterback room last offseason by signing Wilson and trading for Fields.

Despite these moves, the Steelers’ offense remained inconsistent, culminating in yet another early playoff exit.

Until they secure a definitive franchise quarterback, their postseason struggles may continue.

Winston, for his part, would bring experience and leadership to any team willing to take a chance on him.

The question now is whether the Steelers will show mutual interest when the new league year begins in March.

What are your thoughts on Winston wanting to play for the Steelers?

Of course, the interest would have to be a two-way street if there’s any chance for him to end up in Pittsburgh … But can you see it actually happening???
