The Philadelphia Eagles are back on top of the NFL world.
Behind an impressive performance from quarterback Jalen Hurts, the Eagles captured the Super Bowl title with a commanding 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in New Orleans.
“For 364 days of the year, you work day-in and day-out – blood, sweat and tears – just for one moment and that’s to hold that trophy,” Hurts said on Good Morning America.
“When I saw myself in that reflection, it was something I have never seen before so that’s an amazing feeling.”
For Hurts, the win was about more than just lifting the Lombardi Trophy – it was personal.
Two years ago, he walked off the field in heartbreak after a crushing 38-35 loss to the same Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
In the aftermath, he made sure he never forgot the pain, setting his phone’s screensaver to a photo of himself leaving the field as Kansas City celebrated.
Now, with a Super Bowl title of his own, he finally has a chance to swap that image for one of victory and triumph.
After the game, Hurts was asked about his infamous screensaver, but rather than reflecting on his emotional journey, he took the opportunity to call out the teammate who exposed it.
“When I think about that, that wasn’t even supposed to be posted,” Hurts admitted. “I told them, I’m going to start fining they [expletive]. They had their phones out in a team meeting.”
Hurts’ comment quickly went viral on social media with many fans pointing out the hypocrisy of his statement.
“He talking about no phones out like his wasn’t out,” one fan posted on X.
“But ya phone was out,” another fan said.
“Bro gonna make them put phones in a box,” said another.
“Jalen gotta laugh sometimes like bro it’s OKAY,” another said.
In fairness to Hurts, he was clearly just joking around with his comments. Having said that, you can’t blame some fans for taking him serious since he rarely ever smiles.
Regardless, Hurts was in full-control on Sunday as he led the Eagles to the upset victory.
He completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also led all rushers with 72 yards and added another score on the ground.
Hurts’ dominant performance earned him Super Bowl MVP honors, making him the 22nd quarterback in NFL history to win the award.
It’s safe to say he can now change his screensaver if he wants.
What are your thoughts on Philadelphia’s Super Bowl season? … Do you think they can potentially develop into a dynasty of their own???
