Jaire Alexander Drama With Packers Nearing End

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander remains a key figure in the team’s offseason discussions, but questions about his future persist.

While Alexander has expressed a desire to stay with the Packers, speculation about a possible trade has gained momentum.

Alexander, who signed a record-setting contract extension in 2022, has been a high-paid asset for Green Bay. However, his availability has been limited due to injuries and a suspension, having appeared in just 14 games combined over the past two seasons.

According to reports, the Packers recently offered Alexander a restructured deal aimed at keeping him in Green Bay.

“According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Packers have proposed a restructured contract to Alexander, which tangibly demonstrates their interest in retaining the two-time All-Pro cornerback during an offseason in which they have been open to trading him,” The Athletic reported.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst emphasized the team’s intent to balance the interests of both the organization and the player.

“We invested a lot in Jaire and want to make sure, if he’s not gonna be on our football team helping us win games, that we get something back for that investment,” Gutekunst said.

“So we’ll see where it goes, but again, working with (Thornton) weekly and trying to figure out what’s best for both Jaire and the Packers.”

Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Alexander remains engaged with the team. Defensive passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley also revealed that he maintains daily communication with Alexander.

“We have contact every morning,” Ansley said. “I send him a positive quote. Sometimes it’s a scripture. Sometimes it’s just something that somebody sends me and I forward it to him, but yeah, we have contact every morning.”

While discussions continue, Alexander and his agent have yet to agree to any contract restructuring, though the Packers’ offer remains on the table.

Alexander, selected 18th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, has spent seven seasons with Green Bay.

Though his talent is unquestioned when healthy, his recent availability has been a concern, having failed to play more than seven games in three of the last four years.

What do you think the future holds for Alexander? … Would the Packers be wise to trade him???
