Following the New York Jets’ 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, newly acquired wide receiver Davante Adams didn’t shy away from addressing the team.
Despite only being with the Jets for a week, Adams gave a fiery post-game speech in the locker room, calling out the team’s lack of fire and commitment.
“There was a lack of energy and urgency out there, and it was apparent,” Adams said. “I played on teams that have that winning culture, and just basically I just took a moment to let them know I had reservations about speaking up too early and being too vocal too early.
“But I felt like in my mind, I said, ‘F that, because we don’t have time. I have to do whatever I have to do to help the team move forward.'”
The Jets have been struggling all season, and Adams’ remarks seemed to address problems that have been festering for weeks.
Although he’s only been in New York for a short time, Adams quickly recognized issues that the team had been overlooking.
Adams’ impassioned speech might be the turning point for the Jets, who are desperately searching for answers amid a disappointing season.
His willingness to step up and challenge his teammates suggests he could be the leader the Jets have been missing.
Of course, this all begs the question: where has Aaron Rodgers been in all of this???
Many expected Rodgers to be the one firing up the locker room and rallying the team after such a disheartening loss. Instead, it was Adams, a player who had barely unpacked his bags, who took charge.
In fairness, Rodgers acknowledged the concerning lack of energy displayed in Pittsburgh during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show this week.
However, some fans are growing sick and tired of Rodgers’ messaging on McAfee’s Show, especially since results aren’t being delivered on the field.
Adams’ speech was well-received by his teammates, but the reality is that one passionate speech won’t magically fix the Jets’ issues.
The team’s ongoing struggles and playoff drought run deeper than words. It’s now up to the players and coaches to figure out what’s wrong and take meaningful steps to address it before it’s too late.
Things didn’t work out for Adams in Las Vegas, and he deserves at least a small share of blame for that. However, both he and Rodgers were rocking and rolling for years in Green Bay.
It’s no secret that the Packers have one of the best team cultures in the entire NFL. It’s a culture of stability and standard that both Adams and Rodgers seem to be missing.
What are your thoughts on Adams’ speech to the Jets? … Will they be able to turn their season around in time before it’s too late???
