The Pittsburgh Steelers are at a critical juncture as they search for a franchise quarterback in the wake of their current vacancy. With 2025 on the horizon, many names have surfaced in conversation, but one option stands out that could provide both immediate and long-term solutions: trading for Malik Willis.

Currently, former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues to waver in his decision on whether to continue playing in the NFL. While his presence in Pittsburgh has been a topic of speculation, the Steelers would be wise to turn their attention towards Willis, who brings a fresh dynamic that fits their offensive scheme.

Willis was traded from the Tennessee Titans to the Packers just before the start of the 2024 season, a move that proved advantageous for Green Bay. When Jordan Love went down with an injury in Week One, Willis stepped in as the starter and seized the moment. In his two-game stint as a starter, he showcased his growth as a player, completing an impressive 74.1% of his passes for 550 yards, with three touchdowns and a perfect touchdown-to-interception ratio. Additionally, he added another dimension to his play with 138 rushing yards and a touchdown, demonstrating his dual-threat capabilities.

What makes Willis particularly appealing for the Steelers is that he is under contract for the 2025 season but could enter free agency in 2026. Given the unpredictable nature of the free agent market and a draft class that may not offer many game-changers, the Packers could find themselves in a position to consider moving Willis.

For Pittsburgh, pursuing a trade for Malik Willis could be their best option. He fits well into a balanced offensive scheme that leans on both the passing and running game. His dual-threat ability means he can make plays with his arm and legs, potentially reinvigorating an offense hungry for a spark.

Taking a chance on Willis not only gives the Steelers a potential franchise quarterback to build their offense around but also provides a solid bridge option if he needs time to adjust. With his skill set and the upside he offers, Willis could very well be the key to unlocking a new chapter for Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation, paving the way for a promising future beyond 2025.
