The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled to find consistency at quarterback since parting ways with longtime starter Derek Carr after the 2022 season. W
hile Carr wasn’t considered elite, his steady presence under center kept the team competitive for nearly a decade.
Since his departure, the Raiders have cycled through a revolving door of quarterbacks, including Jimmy Garoppolo, Brian Hoyer, Aidan O’Connell, Gardner Minshew, and Desmond Ridder.
Needless to say, none of them solidified themselves as the franchise’s future.
Now, NFL.com’s Nick Shook is floating an intriguing possibility: Could Aaron Rodgers be the answer to Las Vegas’ quarterback woes?
Rodgers, a four-time MVP and sure Hall of Famer, has spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets, but the team has decided to move on without him.
Newly appointed head coach Aaron Glenn has reportedly made it clear that Rodgers isn’t part of the long-term vision, leaving the door open for another franchise to swoop in.
Shook believes the Raiders – led by their influential new minority owner Tom Brady – would be a realistic landing spot for the veteran quarterback.
“This pairing actually makes sense for a few reasons,” Shook wrote. “Tom Brady’s minority ownership seems to carry a ton of influence over the organization, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he pushed the Raiders to pursue a fellow legend who, like Brady, needed a new home to finish out his career.”
Brady famously left the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 and won a Super Bowl in his very first season. (Still can’t believe that.)
Rodgers clearly hasn’t had the same luck with his transition from Green Bay to New York. Injuries derailed his first season with the Jets, and his second year with the team was a complete disaster.
A fresh start in Las Vegas could give him a second shot at ending his career on a high note.
There’s no doubt Rodgers would be the most talented quarterback the Raiders have had in years, but the question remains: Would acquiring the 40-year-old be a smart long-term move?
If the price tag is too steep, it could hinder the team’s ability to build for the future.
However, as Shook pointed out, if anyone knows and values what Rodgers can still bring to the table, it’s Tom Brady.
What do you think the chances are that Rodgers ends up with the Raiders???
