As one of the NFL offseason’s most-watched sagas continues to unfold, speculation surrounding veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains at a fever pitch.
Despite strong ties to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer has yet to ink a deal – keeping fans and analysts alike on high alert.
Rodgers’ recent run with the New York Jets a major failure based on the ultra-high expectations that were set.
His 2023 campaign was abruptly cut short after tearing his Achilles on the opening drive of Week 1. He bounced back to play a full season in 2024, posting solid numbers – completing 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
However, despite his efforts, the Jets as a team failed to meet expectations and we all know how that marriage ended.
Now, all eyes are on where Rodgers will land next, and one prominent NFL voice believes the answer is obvious.
In a breakdown for ESPN, analyst Matt Bowen identified the Steelers as the most logical and beneficial landing spot for Rodgers.
“All signs are pointing at Rodgers heading to Pittsburgh, where he will have a strong run game foundation under coordinator Arthur Smith and a play-action system that can keep the pocket firm,” Bowen stated.
“The quick game will play a role here, too, given Rodgers’ accelerated release time and field vision. And his No. 1 option would be newly acquired receiver DK Metcalf, who thrives at creating explosive plays.”
Bowen’s assessment aligns with the general consensus forming across the league.
The Steelers appear to be Rodgers’ most likely destination – and potentially, his best shot at competing for another Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh’s patience has also been telling. The franchise has held off on pursuing any other high-profile quarterbacks throughout the offseason, seemingly waiting for Rodgers to make his decision.
That kind of commitment could weigh heavily in Pittsburgh’s favor.
Rodgers recently explained the reasons behind his delay in making a decision.
Appearing on Joe Rogan’s ultra-popular podcast, the four-time NFL MVP offered insight into what’s weighing on him off the field.
“I’ve figured it out during the last year when I’ve been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,” Rodgers revealed.
“I’m taking care of my people right now, and I’m taking care of my personal life responsibilities, and I’m keeping the conversation open as well.”
Rodgers previously hinted that off-field issues are preventing him from fully committing to the 2025 season – at least for now.
“I’m in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments I have made.
“I have a couple of people in my inner, inner circle who are battling some difficult stuff. So, I have a lot of things that are taking my attention,” he said.
Until Rodgers officially signs, the rumors will keep swirling. But with training camp rapidly approaching, a resolution is likely near.
As a matter of fact, many insiders think Rodgers could finally ink a deal with Pittsburgh within the next week.
What are your thoughts on the ongoing saga? … Let’s assume Rodgers does indeed sign with the Steelers – What can realistically be expected of him in the 2025 season???
