The Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the season yesterday against the Buffalo Bills.
Despite being an out-of-divison matchup, Chiefs-Bills has become one of the NFL’s best rivalries – maybe even THE best.
Josh Allen played hero for the Bills in their much-needed 30-21 victory at Highmark Stadium. Ten months removed from the memorable Divisional Round playoff clash last year, Buffalo got a slice of revenge against Patrick Mahomes and the two-time defending champs.
Despite the frustration of the defeat, Mahomes displayed grace in a heartfelt moment captured on camera after the game.
Microphones picked up the Chiefs quarterback delivering an emotional message to Allen, highlighting their mutual respect and fierce rivalry.
“We’ll do it again, baby,” Mahomes said to the MVP frontrunner.
Mahomes had an uncharacteristically subpar outing, completing 23 of 33 passes for 196 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Allen, meanwhile, excelled with 262 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception, 55 rushing yards, and a massive rushing score.
The performance reinforced Buffalo’s ability to challenge the Chiefs dominance and ambitions for a historic Super Bowl three-peat.
Sunday’s win marked a rare victory for the Bills against Mahomes, who has previously bested Allen in three playoff meetings, including the 2020 AFC Championship and the Divisional Rounds in 2021 and 2023.
However, it was a statement game for the Bills, reminding the league they are a serious contender this season and that this may be the best Buffalo team of the Allen-era.
Adding fuel to the post-game discussions, Mahomes’ personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe, made a pointed comment on social media that quickly went viral.
“Buffalo with the 5th consecutive regular season Super Bowl championship,” Stroupe posted on X.
The remark, referencing the Bills’ strong regular-season records that have yet to translate into postseason success, drew mixed reactions. While some Chiefs fans saw it as playful banter, others criticized it as dismissive of Buffalo’s achievement.
Stroupe later softened his tone, offering respect to the Bills and acknowledging Allen’s stellar performance: “Seriously great game. See y’all down the road. Respect.”
“Bills had a great win. Josh was excellent!” Stroupe added. “That’s great football and what we should all want. Eyes forward to seeding and finishing regular season.”
As Kansas City shakes off their first loss of the season, Mahomes and the Chiefs will now turn their attention to the Carolina Panthers.
The Chiefs have a nasty tendency to play down to the level of “lesser” opponents. However, coming off this frustrating loss, it’s safe to assume we’ll see a team on a mission next Sunday.
Meanwhile, Allen and the Bills know very well that they will be judged by how they perform in the postseason. Simply put, that’s the only thing that matters.
Having said that, Buffalo sure sent a strong message yesterday.
What are your thoughts on the game? … Do you agree with Mahomes that the two will see each other again in January???
