The football world is grappling with yet another DUI case, this time involving former Alabama Crimson Tide star and NFL running back Eddie Lacy.
The Scottsdale Police Department arrested Lacy in Arizona on charges of “extreme DUI” after officers observed several traffic violations, according to reports by TMZ Sports and The Arizona Republic.
Lacy, who previously played for the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, was taken into custody. A spokesperson for the Scottsdale Police Department explained that Lacyās blood alcohol content level exceeded .20, which qualifies for an “extreme DUI” charge under Arizona law.
āOfficers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop due to traffic violations that were observed by the officers,ā stated the Scottsdale Police Department.
Further investigation revealed that the 34-year-old had an open container in the vehicle, and authorities were already on alert after reports of an erratic driver matching the description of Lacy’s vehicle.
Upon stopping him, officers noted several traffic infractions.
Lacy faces four separate DUI charges, according to official documents.
These include DUI to the slightest degree, DUI with a BAC of 0.08 or more, extreme DUI with a BAC of 0.15 or more, and extreme DUI with a BAC of 0.20 or more.
Reports indicate that Lacy was released after posting bond.
While Lacy is retired from the NFL, there is still a growing concern about road issues that keep on happening with current and former players.
This summer, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was also arrested on suspicion of DUI after being found asleep behind the wheel in Los Angeles. The incident occurred just weeks after Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson tragically died in a car accident.
The Las Vegas Raiders, too, have had their share of DUI-related tragedies, including Henry Ruggs, who was sentenced after a high-speed crash that killed a woman and her dog.
Additionally, New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye was suspended for three games following a DUI plea deal last season.
Of course, one of the more alarming incidents involved Kansas City Chiefs star Rashee Rice who wreaked havoc while street racing in Dallas shortly after helping his team win the Super Bowl.
Thankfully, in the case of Lacy’s situation, no one was harmed.
